Cord too long; mic is ok, expected more from Shure August 17, 2008 M. Dolan (New York, NY USA) I expected a bit more from Shure. The cord is way too long and the mic is only so so. If I had to choose over again I'd probably look for other options.
Great Add-on August 14, 2008 J. Winters (NYC) I use the phone adapter with my Blackberry Pearl, and it works very well. Callers tell me that my voice comes through loud and clear, even in noisy environments. And, of course, I can use my choice of headphones, which happen to be Shure also, allowing me to hear my caller as clearly as possible. As other reviewers have commented, the only awkwardness is the amount of wire. But, I've experimented with a couple different methods of cinching up the extra wire - keep in mind that it's the wire from the headphones, not the adapter, which ends up being the extra wire - and it's not so bad.
Terrible mic quality... can't use outside of really quiet areas August 12, 2008 N. Bush (New York, NY) I can't use this product unless in a quiet space, like my apartment or office, which totally defeats the purpose. The idea is to talk hands-free when you're walking down the street, but people cannot hear me at all over the noise because the mic seems to be ultrasensitive and omnidirectional. Soooo annoying! I can't count the times I've scrambled to unplug the headphones from my iphone because someone is shouting that they can't hear me over the din, even when I'm on relatively quiet streets. I love my Shure SE310 headphones and have no choice but to use this adaptor because the headphones alone cost hundreds, but the Apple microphone on their freebie phones are better than this $40 piece of crap.
Didn't hold up for long. August 11, 2008 Celeste Boyd (Albuquerque, NM) This is a great idea, and it worked perfectly... for about 3 months. After that, it just got flaky, sometimes working and sometimes not. First, the microphone stopped working, so I had to scramble to pull out the headphones and yank it out of the phone when I realized the other person couldn't hear me. Then the button stopped working, and would only advance songs or stop/start playback after pushing the button multiple times. And of course, it didn't malfunction until it was too late to return it. Now granted, I use the thing all the time (at the gym, at work, in the car), but it still seems like it should last longer than 3 months... :(
Adapter Lets you Forward Songs Too July 8, 2008 Mac Wizard (Bangkok, Thailand) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When I first researched this product I could not confirm anywhere whether it acted like the Apple iPhone earphones in allowing you to forward to the next song with a double-click. Well, as it turns out, I bought a set and confirmed it myself. This is one of the only iPhone adapters I know which will not only let you answer and reject calls, but also will let you forward music to the next song in iPod mode. Also, like Shure earphones themselves, it uses a thick heavy duty wire which does not tangle easily and is rugged enough to handle daily use (and stuffing into my pockets). Overall an excellent product. Recommend highly.
