Stay Away. Does Not Work. August 19, 2008 NYC Philosopher (New York, NY USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was very excited to purchase this product, thinking that I could use the auxiliary port to make hands-free calls with my new iPhone 3G, and charge it at the same time through the cigarette lighter. BE FOREWARNED. YOU CANNOT. I have a brand new 2008 Honda Civic with an auxiliary port, and when I attempted to make calls, the bluetooth feature, which should be activated when the iPhone 3G is plugged into the auxiliary port, was NOT activated. I knew, however, that the problem did not lie with my car, because when I plugged the iPhone into the car with my own auxiliary cord--not the Kensington one--it worked perfectly. As a result, I, of course, concluded that I simply received a defective product. So, I proceeded, although skeptically, to ask Amazon to send me a replacement for the defective product. They did, and, of course, when I used the replacement, it did not work either. Now, the deficit surely isn't on my part. I am kind of a smart guy, seeing as though I have a PhD, and am a university professor, and it's most assuredly not my car's fault (as mentioned above), so I can only conclude that this product, as I said in the title, simply does not work. DO NOT BUY IT.
not what i expected August 18, 2008 makseawa (Seattle, wa) So, i ordered this being an audiophile and was hoping for a "handsfree" phone solution. I was looking forward to the clear direct sound. Note that no one has mentioned that the PHONE part of I-Phone doesn't work, just the I-Pod part of the I-Phone. Sure it charges and you can see the maps and gps, but I was not pleased. Oh. Any BTW, one arm-holder thing works and one arm broke while taking it out of the box~! Not pleased. I'll be returning it.
iPhone 3G compatible! August 9, 2008 Ivan Junge I needed a product that would work with the iPhone 3G. I tried a cheap-o version off eBay that said it was compatible. It was not. This one is. The goose neck adjustability along with a swivel makes it easy to find a position that works well in the car. I have a tape deck so I plugged my 3.5 jack into one of the old-school fake tapes for Disk Mans. ($6 on eBay, no shipping). I did need a simple Radio Shack 3.5 female-female adapter ($4). It charges the phone well and sounds great! There are no warnings, errors, things you have to plug in or anything. The iPhone 3G slides into the holder and the big plug goes into the base. That's it. I didn't try the steering wheel mounted remote yet. I found it got in the way of my ability to steer. However, with the position I have the phone in the car it makes it easy to use the touch screen to switch songs.
Good Idea, Poorly Executed August 3, 2008 John J. Irvine (Berryville, VA USA) I've been looking and waiting for a full aux-port cradle solution for years, and I couldn't wait to purchase this. Unfortunately, my overall impression is "meh." The system works as advertised, and it works properly with my iPhone 3G. That said, the build quality is flimsy at best -- the remote literally fell apart (into pieces that shouldn't have come off) while I removed the battery cover to install the battery, only one of the extending arms actually extends properly (the other hangs and has to be yanked out), and the flexible post is too short for its stiffness, so bending it to a usable angle causes it to flex the base so hard that I worry about it snapping. Also, forget using this in a recessed power jack; it needs one fairly flush (and unobstructed) with the dash because of the too-short flex-arm. I really wanted to like this, and it's just been a big disappointment in quality for the price.
Works Very Well With iPhone 3G July 31, 2008 Y. Yang (San Diego, CA USA) Because I use Pandora while I drive, the 3G function drains my battery like no tomorrow. I purchased this car kit to mount, charge, and connect to my aux input so I can listen to streaming internet radio. Setup was a breeze. The remote control does not allow you to control the audio function of 3rd party applications such as AOL Radio or Pandora, but it works very well with the iPod function on the iPhone 3G. Slightly expensive, but worth the money.
